Go Outdoors is the UK’s largest outdoor supplies chain, is inspiring people to go outdoors and love it as much as they do. They stock a range of equipment and clothing for an even wider variety of adventures. Go Outdoors areencouraging staycations (or GOcations) to promote local culture and products through a social media campaign.
A staycation is a holiday spent in your home country rather than abroad, or even one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions. According to the latest figures from VisitBritain, there were 59 million staycations in the UK last year. With the UK boasting four countries, 7,723 miles of coastline, 69 cities, 46 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and 15 national parks, it’s no surprise so many Britons are enjoying staycations. In recognising all that’s on offer on our doorstep, we are also helping to boost the economy with the total spend on staycations being £23.7 billion in 2017.
Go Outdoors want to celebrate the great British staycation, given that there is so much to do around the UK from holidays to day trips and are proud to offer advice and inspiration. On their website, you’ll find ideas for things to do and places to visit around the UK, information from expert guides, and some suggestions on how to make the most of your holidays.
Go Outdoors created a campaign – #GOcation – to promote staycations in the UK. They encouraged the public to share photos and videos of their road trips and tag it with the hashtag #GOcation, to be in with the chance of winning a grand prize of a £500 Go Outdoor voucher.
This story shows how Go Outdoors supports Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, specifically Target 8.9: “By 2030, devise and implement policies to promote sustainable tourism which creates jobs, promotes local culture and products.”
