How can software help dyslexic students?

iSmart is bringing about positive change in school by helping students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties learn to read and write. iSmart’s smarter way to learn combines educational resources with specialist tools to help bring out equal and inclusive education where all students can reach their potential.

Beginnings

The company founders, a frustrated mother of a dyslexic child and her tech savvy colleague, dreamt of an solution that could help dyslexic students in school. The project came to life when it won a fierce competition for EU funding. Today, they have the support of educational experts, programmers, designers and the dyslexic community. The app is actively developed by a dynamic team based in Malta and the company has been accepted to the Social Stock Exchange, demonstrating iSmart’s positive impact on society as a social enterprise.

Revolutionary

iSmart helps students learn, study and grow to reach their potential sooner than ever before. Its product includes text-to-speech and speech-to-text features, allowing for ease of input, and on-screen highlighting to aid reading comprehension. Other features keep parents and teachers informed of timetabling, homework and grades.

Inclusive

The app was developed with specialist psychologists and tested by students. In this way, it supports their unique needs. It’s inclusive platform helps students of all ages with learning difficulties including dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, autism, ADHD and mild cognitive disability.

This story shows how iSmart supports Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, specifically Target 10.2: “By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status.”
